ETS Pillar Program Overview
The massive use of fossil energy has brought a series of problems in the fields of environment, ecology and global climate change. It has become a strategic choice and action for most countries in the world to actively solve the dilemma and accelerate the energy transition. The goal of global energy transition is to enter a sustainable energy era dominated by renewable energy (RE). In 2015, the United Nations adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the seventh of which is to ensure access to affordable, reliable and sustainable modern energy for all. Most countries in the world have formulated corresponding sustainable development goals.
Energy demand of 21 APEC economies accounts for 57% of global total demand. In 2014 APEC Leaders Declaration, the goal of “doubling the share of renewables in the APEC energy mix, including in power generation, from 2010 levels by 2030.” was put forward. In order to reach the APEC RE doubling goal and effectively promote energy transition in APEC region, APSEC proposes to implement the Asia-Pacific Energy Transition Solutions (ETS) Pillar Program from 2020.
