As many as 13 of the 21 APEC economies are important producers or consumers of coal. There is great potential to strengthen and promote clean and efficient coal utilization and carry out international cooperation in related fields in APEC region. Therefore, the clean coal technology (CCT) transfer program was listed as one of the pillar programs of APSEC.

Based on China’s advanced clean coal technologies, CCT program is committed to promote and disseminate China's clean coal technologies, especially clean and efficient coal-fired power generation technologies, to promote international cooperation and exchange of clean energy technologies between China and other APEC economies. The following special research projects have been carried out during 2014 - 2019: “Roadmap to Promote Transfer and Dissemination of Clean Coal Technologies in APEC Region”, “Stratey Research on Clean Coal Technology Transfer along the ‘Belt & Road’ in APEC Region”, “Experience Sharing and Technology Dissemination of Clean and Efficient Coal-Fired Power Generation Technologies in APEC Region”, “New Requirements for Clean Coal Development and Energy Policy Research in APEC Region”, and “Exchange and Training on Clean Coal Technology and Clean Energy Policy”. During 2020 - 2022, the following activities will be carried out: Research on “Development and Deployment of Ultra-low Emission Coal-fired Power Generation Technology in APEC Region”, Workshop and Training on “World Energy Trend and China Clean Coal Technology and Policy”, Training on “Application of Ultra-low Emission Coal-fired Power Generation Technology”, and “Exchange Activities on Clean Coal Technology Development”.
