Workshop on the APEC Cooperative Network of Sustainable Cities - 5th APEC Workshop on Sustainable Cities Successfully Held
Workshop on the APEC cooperative network of sustainable cities – the 5th APEC workshop on sustainable cities was successfully held in Tianjin on 17th September, 2020. Due to the impact of COVID-19, the 5th APEC workshop on sustainable cities, which was originally planned to be held in Surabaya, Indonesia, in March this year, was postponed and merged with the 6thAsia-Pacific energy sustainable development forum. And the workshop was held online for the first time. The theme of this workshop is "Energy resilience through urban renewables" and " Urban sustainability indicators and trackers". It was sponsored by APEC Sustainable Energy Center(APSEC) , co-organized by International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), and supported by APEC Cooperative Network of Sustainable Cities Program Joint Operation Center.
Representatives of eight economies from Australia; Canada; China; Hong Kong, China; Indonesia; The Philippines; Thailand and the United States, and nearly 40 experts from international organizations such as United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank(AIIB), Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI), World Resources Institute(WRI), the Regulatory Assistance Project (RAP) attended the workshop. The workshop was chaired by APSEC senior researcher Dr. Baoquan Yin. The opening speech was given by Mr. Vy Ek Chin the chairman of APEC Expert Group of Energy Efficiency and Conservation (EGEE&C).
This workshop is an important event of APSEC. Focusing on the theme of "Energy resilience through urban renewables" and "Urban sustainability indicators and trackers", experts provided intellectual support for the sustainable urban construction. The panel discussion of this workshop promoted the information sharing of urban disaster resistance and integrating resilience construction in APEC, urban renewable energy utilization and urban sustainable development indicators and trackers. It promoted the development of urban renewable energy utilization and sustainable development concept in APEC region.
