APEC Energy Transition and Sustainable Cities
On September 19, 2019, the 5th Asia-Pacific Energy Sustainable Development Forum, which was organized by APEC Sustainable Energy Center (APSEC), was held in Tianjin. Mr. Jyuung-Shiauu Chern, the Lead Shepherd of APEC Energy Working Group; Mr. Fengquan AN, Deputy Director of Department of International Cooperation of NEA; Mr. Qijun Jia, Minister of Organization of Tianjin University and more than 160 representatives from the APEC Energy Working Group (EWG), 14 APEC economists, independent experts and domestic government departments, universities, research institutions and enterprises attended the forum to explore APEC energy sustainable development on the theme of “ Energy Transition and Sustainable Cities ”
This annual event began with the establishment of APSEC 5 years ago. The guests spoke highly of its achievements.
Mr. Jyuung-Shiauu Chern Gave Opening Remarks
Mr. Jyuung-Shiauu Chern, the Lead Shepherd of APEC Energy Working Group, confirmed APSEC’s achievements in the past five years.
He said, ‘In the past five years, APSEC has made a great contribution to the Energy Working Group, especially on sustainable cities and clean coal technology. On the other hand, personally, I am highly delighted to be part of APSEC's history. I participated the creation of APSEC in 2014, and has been with APSEC ever since. APSEC has demonstrated herself as an indispensable sub forum to the Energy Working Group.’
Mr. Fengquan AN Gave Opening Remarks
Mr. Fengquan AN, Deputy Director of Department of International Cooperation of NEA, on behalf of the National Energy Administration, gave sincere greetings to all the colleagues and distinguished guests.
He said, ‘APEC Sustainable Energy Center (APSEC) was established at the 11th APEC Energy Ministerial Meeting in 2014, and it's the first international energy organization led by National Energy Administration. Since its establishment, National Energy Administration has attached great importance to APSEC’s development. In the future, NEA will continuously work together with Tianjin University to develop APSEC as a high-end think-tank in Asia-Pacific region.’
Mr. Qijun Jia Gave Opening Remarks
Mr. Qijun Jia, Minister of Organization of Tianjin University, said, ‘Tianjin University has attached great importance to APSEC and invested a lot of substantial resources and financial support. APSEC has also met the expectations of the public. The five-year construction has achieved remarkable results, and won the approval of APEC. Its development results also get appreciation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and National Energy Administration. APSEC is a good platform to merge various relevant disciplinary knowledge. Tianjin University will use well this platform to serve energy sustainable development domestically and in APEC region. I look forward to seeing more achievements and better development of APSEC.’
Exhibition on APSEC Five-Year Achievements
and Kick-Off Ceremony for the New Stage
During the forum, APEC Sustainable Urban Development Report was released. Appointment Ceremony for APSEC Advisory Board and Chinese Experts New Members and Certificate Award for New Members of APEC Cooperative Network of Sustainable Cities were presented. The acceptance letters of 5th Anniversary Special Issues of GEI (Global Energy Interconnection)/JGB (Journal of Green Building) papers were issued. Unveiling Ceremony of Energy Transition Solutions Joint Operation Center was held, which was established by APSEC and China Renewable Energy Engineering Institute.
APSEC’s five-year achievements were grandly exhibited. Mr. Jyuung-Shiauu Chern, the Lead Shepherd of APEC Energy Working Group; Mr. Fengquan AN, Deputy Director of Department of International Cooperation of NEA; Mr. Qijun Jia, Minister of Organization of Tianjin University; Mr. Zhibing MAO, Engineer of China State Construction Engineering Corporation, and other five special guests attended the launching ceremony for entering the new stage.
Special Guests Gave Plenary Speeches
Mr. Jie TANG, Former Deputy Mayor of Shenzhen Municipal Government of China; Mr. Ir Harry Lai, Principle Energy Advisor of The Electrical and Mechanical Services Department of Hong Kong SAR Government; Mr. Junfeng LI, Former Director of National Center for Climate Change Strategy and International Cooperation carried on plenary speeches respectively on topics of China`s Experience in the Implementation of the UN 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda – the Example of Shenzhen, Collaboration in the Greater Bay Area-EMSD’s perspective and Renewable Energy-The Driving Force for Energy Transformation.
Parallel Sessions and Technical Tour
Four parallel sessions were also organized, discussing cooperation of sustainable cities in APEC region and APEC Energy Transition Solutions. After the meeting, the participants went to Tianjin University (Weijin Road Campus) to attend the opening ceremony and technical exchange on Research and Development and Test Base of Smart Microgrid Technology.
