China Won One Gold and Two Silver Awards in APEC ESCI Best Practices Awards
The results of the 4th APEC Energy Smart Communities Initiative (ESCI) Best Practice Award were officially announced on 5 July. With the support and guidance of the National Energy Administration of China (NEA), three Chinese project recommended by APSEC stood out among total 63 applicants from 17 APEC economies, and won one Gold and two Silver Awards.
Under the Smart Building Pillar, the Design and Construction Integration (EPC) Project of PNG and China Friendship School - Butuka Academy submitted by China Construction Steel Structure Corp. Ltd(CSCEC), and the Building Energy Efficiency Program - Xintang Center submitted by CSCEC Xintang (Tianjin) Investment won the Gold and Silver Awards respectively.
Under the Smart Grid Pillar, the Smart Integrated Energy Microgrid in Customer Service Center of State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC), jointly submitted by the SGCC Customer Service Center and Tianjin University, won the Silver Award.
The APEC ESCI Best Practice Award is the only project award in APEC, which rewards excellent practices in five pillars, namely Smart Transport, Smart Buildings, Smart Grids, Smart Jobs and Low-Carbon Model Towns in the APEC region. Since 2013, the award organized biennially. There is a gold and silver award in each pillar. None of Chinese practice was awarded before.
In 2017, the task of Promoting China's Practice to the APEC region, supporting and streamlining of the application processes for the APEC ESCI Best Practices Awards” was written in the APEC Sustainable Energy Center (APSEC) Three-Year Work Plan. In 2018-2019, APSEC organized the application for ESCI Best Practice Award in China. After a series of relevant activities including case collection, application training, and expert review over the last year, three projects were selected to participate in the 4th APEC ESCI Best Practice Awards in 2019.
